Before I read the Obama Speech

I just want to say, I think it’s generally a bad idea given the political climate, but I dont’ think it’s bad for the president of the United States to give a pep talk to kids about the importance of education and goal setting. Being accountable to themselves and taking advantage of the opportunities they have in front of them. That’s all good. The problem is really what the teachers will do with the opportunity to glorify this president. When other presidents did this type of thing in the past it wasn’t any big deal.

  • My problem isn’t the speech, it’s the “lessons” that the Federal Education Department so thoughtfully handed out. You know, asking dear leader what they can do for him. That’s the part that bugged me. The speech itself, who cares. And I noticed now that the Dept of Ed is controlled by a socialist, they lefties don’t seem to have any problems with telling local schools what to do. Funny how that happens…

I found it really interesting to read about what the Dems did back when Bush gave a similar speech in 1990ish. Basically, they opened investigations, had hearings asked the GAO if it was legal spending and raised bloody murder. Suddenly, when it’s their boy it’s ok. I agree, the speech is fine, it’s even good. Kids should hear that message consistently from both sides of the aisle, from home and from leaders..but.. the lessons going along are sick and twisted and really the stuff of fascism.
