Kagan Is The Face Of American Totalitarianism
Please watch the following video and tell me that what she says is not the scariest thing you’ve heard from a potential Supreme Court nominee?
This woman should be nowhere near the Supreme Court. This non answer shows how extreme she really is. How can she sit there and not say that such a law would be unconstitutional? If the republicans had any nuts, which they don’t, they would filibuster this nominee until November. I won’t hold my breath waiting though.
The Legacy Media Shows It’s Yellow Stripe
You haven’t seen this picture because the legacy media is full of cowards.
There was a protest that involved active duty servicemen chaining themselves to the fence in front of the White House. The media was there to cover the even. But since HRH The Sun King was heckled the other night for his lack of policy movement on DADT, and he has a notoriously thin skin, the authorities in DC decided that it was much better to remove the media from covering the event and trying to squash any coverage of the event.
If you don’t believe me, you can see the shameful media backing up like the craven cowards they are.
You’d think the media, the supposed defenders of the first amendment, would be up in arms that their guys police apparatus actually stopped them from covering a protest. Oh wait, that’s right. HRH The Sun King is their guy, that’s why they are the craven cowards that they are and did nothing. No, they didn’t do nothing. They did what the authorities told them to do and backed up, like the cowards they are.
Where’s the bravery? Where’s the journalistic impulse to ask the police, why are you closing a public park? I’d go on but since the “journalists” have proven themselves to be such cowards it’s not even worth my time. If all you sucks up in the legacy media want to know why people think journalists are such shits, maybe you should actually look at your behavior. Of course that would require you actually doing something other than toadying up to HRH The Sun King and would require you to actually think about what you’re doing so I know that will never happen. Chumps.
Hey, Fidel Loves Obamacare
I’m pretty sure this isn’t the endorsement that HRH The Sun King was looking to get.
Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro on Thursday declared passage of American health care reform “a miracle” and a major victory for Obama’s presidency, but couldn’t help chide the United States for taking so long to enact what communist Cuba achieved decades ago.
Somehow I see this endorsement showing up in a few political ads this fall.
Hell No You Can’t
This is a great speech. It’s a barn burner. They should be like this more often. It would really show some life and what they really stand for as a party.
And Here’s The Health Care Vote
No really, what’s the difference…
What They Really Mean By Health Care Reform
Poor Ezra… he’s given away the game with this post.
But the fact of it is that this bill represents an enormous leftward shift for American social policy. It is not, in my view, a sufficient leftward shift, but it is unmatched by anything that has passed into law in recent decades. Progressives have lost some very hard battles but are on the cusp of winning an incredibly important war. For all its imperfections, health-care reform itself is deeply, deeply progressive.
Straight from the horses ass, so to speak.
On a side note, I realize that I’m just a “blogger” and am not part of the cool kids that get to be a democratic operative living off the carcass of the legacy media but, why does anyone even follow Ezra?
Anyway, it’s quite obvious that this bill IS a holy goal, for what passes as religion with the left. It must be opposed unless you truly are ok with a huge shift to the left. I am not and really don’t know what I will do if it passes.
This process is not legislation. This process is corruption.
One of the few times that I really can’t argue with a politician.
Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) was even harsher, calling the internal Democratic negotiations – which included expensive provisions aimed at winning over Democratic holdouts – “corruption.”
“This process is not legislation. This process is corruption. And it’s corruption that’s obvious to the average American in this country,” Coburn said. “And it’s a shame that that’s the only way we can come to consensus in this country is to buy votes.”
Coburn also railed about $100 million inserted into the bill on behalf of a still unidentified university hospital. Coburn said Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) office won’t tell Republicans which school is getting the money.
“Who did they buy for $100 million? Is it Connecticut? Is that Nebraska? What other state has bought a deal, that gets $100 million, that nobody else gets,” Coburn said.
Let’s be honest. This is corruption. You vote for my bill, I will give you hundreds of millions of dollars that you can then spend on your state so you get reelected. This is corruption. Clear and simple. And nothing will be done about it. Hell, they even brag that this is “normal”.
Jim Manley, a spokesman for Majority Leader Harry Reid, called the special provisions aimed at swaying certain Democratic senators “a normal part of the legislative process.”
Dear Sen Nelson, I hope the pieces of silver they bought off your sorry ass is worth bankrupting the country.
The Saturday Night Massacre
Well if you haven’t seen the bad news, the House has passed its version, whichever one they pretend they actually have in written form, of health care reform.
Hours after President Obama exhorted Democratic lawmakers to “answer the call of history,” the House hit an unprecedented milestone on the path to health-care reform, approving a trillion-dollar package late Saturday that seeks to overhaul private insurance practices and guarantee comprehensive and affordable coverage to almost every American.
After months of acrimonious partisanship, Democrats closed ranks on a 220-215 vote that included 39 defections, mostly from the party’s conservative ranks. But the bill attracted a surprise Republican convert: Rep. Anh “Joseph” Cao of Louisiana, who represents the Democratic-leaning district of New Orleans and had been the target of a last-minute White House lobbying campaign. GOP House leaders had predicted their members would unanimously oppose the bill.
Sweet.
The dems have a 75 seat majority but were only able to get a 5 seat majority for this bill.
Anyone that voted for this bill should be voted out of office.
I’m truly not one for a lot of hyperbole, but I am really scared that this will change the country in ways we do not know. And no, I don’t think they will be good ways.
I am at a loss for words and am feeling very negative about the future of this country.
Hopefully the clowns that make up the senate will do the right thing and kill this.
I don’t have high hopes though.
Why Ayn Rand is Hot Again
Reason has a review of a new Ayn Rand book. It’s a decent review of a book written by someone that wasn’t either an acolyte of Ayn or someone who hated her.
Sources from The New York Times to the United Kingdom’s Guardian agree that 2009 is the Year of Ayn Rand. Fortuitously surfing the wave of Rand fascination is the first thorough and largely unbiased book about her life and ideas by a serious American academic, one neither a personal friend nor a bitter enemy of the controversial Russian-born novelist and philosopher.
Goddess of the Market: Ayn Rand and the American Right, by University of Virginia historian Jennifer Burns, delivers a smart assessment of Rand’s life and ideas and how they influenced each other. On what her book’s title promises—the connections between Rand and the American right wing—Ms. Burns is less convincing, though she does provide enough data to make it clear why Rand has never really been a “goddess” to the American right.
It does sound like an interesting book and one to take a look at.
